Position Summary

The Concrete worker is responsible for building forms, tying rebar, placing, leveling, shaping, finishing, and curing concrete on commercial, industrial, heavy civil, roadway, and other construction projects. The Concrete Finisher works as part of a construction crew to ensure concrete work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project plans, specifications, elevations, and quality standards.

The successful candidate must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, operate and maintain hand and power tools, read basic construction plans, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare concrete surfaces and work areas prior to concrete placement.
  • Assist with forming, setting, and checking concrete forms, tying rebar, installing dowels.
  • Place, spread, and consolidate freshly poured concrete.
  • Operate concrete vibrators and other concrete-placement equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools to level, strike off, screed, float, and finish concrete.
  • Operate or assist with power trowels, walk-behind trowels, and other finishing equipment.
  • Perform broom, smooth, exposed aggregate, stamped, or other specified concrete finishes.
  • Establish and maintain proper grades, slopes, elevations, and tolerances.
  • Cut, tool, and finish concrete joints according to project specifications.
  • Install and finish concrete around structures, curbs, sidewalks, slabs, foundations, drainage structures, and other construction features.
  • Assist with concrete testing and quality-control procedures as directed.
  • Monitor concrete during placement and finishing to identify potential defects or problems.
  • Apply curing compounds and assist with curing procedures.
  • Repair, patch, or otherwise correct defective concrete surfaces as directed.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Properly clean, inspect, and store tools and equipment after use.
  • Follow project plans, specifications, manufacturer instructions, and directions from supervisors.
  • Assist other members of the construction crew when needed.
  • Follow all company, OSHA, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, injuries, and incidents immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Superintendent.
  • Operate heavy equipment.
